Ballycastle Writers Group was formed in 1990 by poet and publisher Joan Newmann.
Joan taught the group until 1996 before moving from Ballycastle with her daughter Kate to live in Donegal. Through her talent and generosity the group have grown into the active and forward thinking group that exists today. The inspiration given by course tutors who followed Joan have kept the creative flame alive and created invaluable interaction between members that is the life force of the group.
The group currently have 20 active members of mixed age and gender. They meet weekly on Wednesdays during term time in Rathmoyle Library room at 7.30 pm. Many of the writers have been published in their own right. The group have one anthology to their credit 'Rhythm of Hearts' the title taken from one of Joan's poems "I am floating in arms linked in loosely woven fingers, rocked to the rhythm of heart".
